Some Wounds Don’t Bleed: Hidden Trauma, Recovery, and the Path to Healing – My Conversation on Girl Talk Mental Health

Some of the deepest wounds are invisible.
They live behind confident smiles, successful careers, church attendance, and the everyday words “I’m fine.” I recently had the honor of joining Virginia Dale Manning, LPC-S on her powerful podcast Girl Talk Mental Health Stories from My Couch – Episode 25.
In this honest and heartfelt conversation, we explored the reality of hidden trauma, the kind that often goes unnoticed, even by the person carrying it.We talked about the silent struggles so many people face while continuing to show up for their families, jobs, and communities.
Topics included:
Childhood emotional neglect
Silent grief and unprocessed loss
Betrayal and its impact on identity
Family expectations that silence authenticity
Trauma disguised as “normal life”
We also discussed how hidden trauma quietly affects relationships, confidence, emotional regulation, spiritual connection, and even generational patterns — often without people realizing what’s happening until life begins to feel unmanageable. The most important part of the conversation? Healing is possible.
Many people don’t recognize they’re carrying trauma until something shifts or unravels. Once we begin to see it with compassion, real recovery can start — and it doesn’t have to be a lifelong, slow process.I share practical insights from my clinical experience about how targeted trauma work (including EMDR, IFS, somatic approaches, and more) can help people release shame, rewire old patterns, and reclaim their sense of safety and self-trust.
Episode 25 – Girl Talk Mental Health: If you’ve ever felt like you’re carrying something heavy that no one else can see, I encourage you to watch this episode. You may find validation, hope, and a reminder that you are not alone.
