I’m thrilled to share that I was recently interviewed for a new article in AARP titled “Online Therapy: What You Need to Know Before You Start.”
In the piece, several mental health professionals (including myself) share practical, honest guidance about virtual therapy, especially helpful for anyone 50+ who may be exploring telehealth for the first time or wondering how it really compares to in-person sessions.
Here are some of the key highlights:
Accessibility wins: No travel, no traffic, and the ability to attend from the comfort of home — which can be a game-changer for mobility, chronic illness, or busy schedules.
Technology realities: Yes, some nonverbal cues can be lost, but many platforms now offer helpful features like captions.
Safety & confidentiality: Reputable therapists use HIPAA-compliant platforms with the same privacy standards as in-person care.
The importance of fit: Setting clear goals early and feeling a genuine connection with your therapist matters just as much online.
It’s okay to switch: If it doesn’t feel right after a few sessions, having an open conversation and finding a better match is encouraged.
Whether you are working on trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, or life challenges online therapy can be a great tool and resource for your healing!
